Whistler Mountain's original name was London Mountain. It was renamed Whistler in honor of the whistling marmots that inhabited it. Summers in Whistler are pleasantly moderate, and the temperatures in winter are usually milder than in other North American ski towns due to the low altitude and proximity to the Pacific Ocean.
